Otto Olsson (1879-1964) is one of the most important Swedish composers of organ music. He was a professor of harmony and organ at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and one of the greatest Swedish organ virtuosos of his time. His strong background in counterpoint was combined with an affinity for French organ music to create his late Romantic style of composition. He also explored polytonality in his works. He had a big interest in early music and used the plainchant techniques of Gregorian chant, for exemple in his large Organ Symphony, Credo Symphoniacum. This album is a historical recording with the famous organist Torvald Torén. He plays great organ works by the Swedish composer Otto Olsson on the former organ of Hedvig Eleonora Church, Stockholm. Recorded live on September 17, 1974 (3 Preludes and fugues, Credo Symphoniacum), and on October 20, 1974 (O quot undis lacrimarum, O sacrum convivium).
